MATARIKI: The Maori New Year 2014

A university assignment celebrating the star group Matariki, known in other cultures as the Pleiades and the Seven Sisters. It featured strongly in pre-European New Zealand in marking the beginning of the Maori calendar and its rising before the sun in late May or early June was greeted with great festivals. Matariki was used as a guide to planting and harvesting and was studied by tohunga as an omen which told whether the food-gathering season would be plentiful or lean.

Aim was to make large sum of content accessible and graphically interesting through text, hierarchy, colour and composition. Restricted to an A2 format, either landscape or portrait, and 2 colours.

A2 poster folded down to make an A5 information booklet and on the reverse side had an A2 calander.
